Greetings and welcome to my website. I am Merlin, occasionally pretentious and oft-longwinded. I'm about to put some of that into practice now:
I originally started this site as a place to store my thoughts about different television shows and films I was watching. It's one of my main hobbies and I find it important to engage meaningfully with the things I watch, yet I previously lacked a place to put my thoughts. This is still a monthly (or sometimes bimonthly) habit of mine, although my site is expanding to include other interests on more static-style pages as well. I have numerous interests I'm nearly always wanting to talk about, so I'm excited to start putting those on here.
That's the main goal of this site: to get the words out of my head and put somewhere, and get into regular writing practice outside of school or work. They're not always polished, but that's intentional: it's about routine and becoming comfortable with moving to a new project. And, to some extent, about finding people who might have similar inclinations. The navigation bar to your left provides an overview of the sort of things I like to write/otherwise post on here. I want the focus of my site to be the words, and the layout needs to reflect these long stretches of text.
With that said, I'm slowly coming into my own in terms of the more visual aspects of Neocities. It's something I'm not as used to, as I can best express myself through articulation, but I've come to really like the layout I built myself and the theming it involves. This site started out built by layout builders, which were an important step in my becoming more comfortable with html and css. You can see hints of my old site around, but all of the major pages are messy, imperfect, but definitely mine. I'm really proud of myself for building them and starting to learn this new set of skills.
